    Description

Up for sale I can today offer a very nice, late 19th century (Victorian era) Fire Warden / Alarm "Muffin" type bell. This hand-held bell works by waving the bell back and forth to activate the clapper, which is sandwiched between both halves of the bell's body, which appears to be made from brass. The bell is itself affixed to a hardwood handle, with a brass "throat" piece, and brass finial tip onto which a steel "O" ring is mounted. There's some surface rust extant to the ring itself, which I'm sure will clean up a bit if so desired, but I'm offering it exactly as is / as found. The bell mechanism itself works very well, and is quite LOUD when rung! The bell itself measures 4 1/2 inches in diameter, and the entire bell measures 10 inches tall from the base of the handle to the top of the bell. The brass sections have all acquired a very mellow patina from age, and the hardwood handle has its original finish with one spot that's a bit rough, doubtless acquired from the position in which it lay for many a decade in storage.Overall, a very nice, very displayable, very collectible fire alarm / criers bell from the 19th century for any collector.
