VERY RARE and unusual postcard from January 1941. It is from a Gefreiter (private), to what is apparently a company, thanking them for the Christmas gifts for the soldiers of their town which had just arrived and how nice it was to receive them for the new year. This private was obviously enthusiastic and we'll leave it at that. What's interesting to note, this feldpost number is for a bridge building battalion, and on both corners on the back of the postcard, he ink stamped a square and compasses! A Masonic emblem on a German Army feldpost postcard in 1941? I am aware that Germany closed down Freemason lodges in 1935 and made Masons targets of propaganda, but, I'm a Mason myself. There is an excellent read you can find on the web called "Compass, Square, and Swastika," and it does a good job detailing the uneasy relationship Masons had with the German state. While they were technically shut down, many Masons continued to contribute heavily to the war effort because most were skilled workers or intellectuals (such as a bridge builder) and as such, they generally were not persecuted. This may also explain this man's enthusiastic remark, and it may well be that he was sending the card to a Brother Mason - other than that, I have no idea - I've never seen this on any German feldpost cards or letters before!
